Letting comments free
Monday, May 19th, 2008Louis Gray has a great roundup of the debate over comments on blog posts moving away from the post’s point of origin. He uses the clear parallel of bloggers adjusting to full text RSS feeds that also reduced control over their content. If anything, feeds have increased the spread of blogging’s influence, and feed aggregators have allowed new bloggers to be exposed to readers who already suffered from subscription fatigue. Louis is one example, since my exposure to his writing has been almost entirely through Techmeme. New aggregation points for comments will be equally positive, but the transition will certainly be bumpy.
